Mark Newman has reported a snipe sp. at Lake McLarty yesterday (Wed 14th).  See details below. It is probably Pin-tailed but unless you see it in the hand you can't be certain.  Pin-tailed Swinhoe's and Latham's have been found in the south west as rare vagrants in the past.  Noone has reported any further sighting of the possible Northern Pintail seen by Alan Collins, but there is probably a group going down there this weekend to have a further look.

Hello

Every time i see the Long Toed Stints recorded there i pop down to try & see them.
No Luck again. Was there for nearly 4 hrs. But i did see the following

14 Whiskered Tern
2 Male Chestnut Teal
15 Australian Spotted Crake
2 Spotless Crake
2 Pectoral Sandpiper
20 Curlew Sandpiper
5 Black Tailed Godwit
3 Marsh Sandpiper

1 Pin tailed Snipe
i know its hard to split the species but i got within 3 mtrs of this bird twice. Followed every time it got flushed out. Didn't make a sound when it did get flushed.Hiding between the Reeds & the tussocks on the far side of the lake i had very good views of the Bird.
Darker rusty Brown colouring compared to the Latham's.
Feet hanging out when in flight.
larger than a Sharp Tail & looks like a mini Godwit.
Use to seeing Snipe in the UK.
i have checked my books & internet all day yesterday & am nearly 100% certain it was a pin tailed.
