Hi All,
Just had a whirlwind two day trip (20-21st Dec) to Orbost, Cape Conran
and Snowy River National Park in East Gippsland, Victoria.

A night spotlighting around Cape Conran area produced a dark
(juvenile?) Masked Owl, two sooty Owls and a nice selection of mammals
and frogs. Most pleasingly the owls were found without the use of call
playback. Photos of the Masked Owl are here:

At Cabbage Tree Palms Reserve, via Marlo there were about 15 Topknot
Pigeons, 2 pairs of Black-faced Monarchs and a Brush Cuckoo calling.

The west branch of the Yeerung River (via the Old Coast Rd) had Satin
Flycatcher, numbers of Olive-backed Orioles, two dark breasted
White-bellied Cuckoo-shrikes.
Back near the intersection of the Old Coast Rd and the Cape
Conran-Cabbage Tree Rd there was a male Turquoise Parrot. A second
Turquoise Parrot was about half way along the Marlo Plains Rd.

Up at Snowy River National Park at Waratah Flat there were more Brush
Cuckoos, a Rose Robin, a Square-tailed Kite soaring overhead and large
numbers of Gang Gangs.

Best wishes for the festive season and New Years.

Rohan
