The golden whistler on Norfolk Island is a surprisingly different bird from its
relative on the mainland.  Apart from not being golden at all it has a very
different, and more varied vocal repertoire.  When this bird going to be
declared a separate species ?

Apart from the residents  most of whom were easy to find (excepting the extict?
white breasted white eye), we saw:
1-4 great frigatebirds at Bird Rock, 3 days running
1 brown booby at the same location
1 lonely white throated needletail flying around Mt Pitt 8-14 Dec !
1 Pectoral sandpiper Kingston marsh/Commons-also stayed the week.
2 Red Knots ( one with red over black flags)
Also 2 bartailed godwits, 24 ruddy turnstones, 2 whimbrels , and 2-3 wandering
tattlers out on the reef.
The sea birds were great and a trip to Philip Island is worth the effort.
Unfortunately no white necked petrels about, but dark phase kermadec was
nesting.
