There are at least two house sparrows (I've always referred to them as spadgers too) in the Barossa (SA) (regulars in my Tanunda backyard and perfectly socially acceptable to the other normal spadgers it seems) sporting normal female plumage... except for bright plum red crowns (and, no, it's not paint or dye!). Has anyone else seen this phenomenon before?
