Hi there,
Of interest on a trip in the Victorian Mallee this week saw a " Blue Bonnet "
with other Blue Bonnets along the Patchewollock - Sea Lake Road, east of Speed,
actually east of the railway crossing, closer to the Calder Highway. It stood
out like a sore thumb, bright deep pinkish red over much of its body and wings.
The tail appeared pale, creamy. Flew just like a Blue Bonnet, and had the
same size and structure ( was associating with a flock of the same). Also
typically was hard to approach in a vehicle, and unfortunately we couldn't get
any photos.
I was interested to see that the northern NSW / Southern Queensland race of
Blue Bonnet has more red in its plumage. Perhaps some wild genes coming out in
force !

Has anyone witnessed anything similar ??

Regards,
Simon Starr.

Ps I imagine the bird would hang around the same stretch of road if anyone is
passing that way.
