Thanks Rob. It crossed my mind that it sounded a bit like a pigeon on the recording. However, to my ears at the time, able to block out the nearby birds mentally, it was a really loud bird. It was 50 to 100m away, and moving around a lot. A directional microphone would have helped, but all I had was the built in microphones in my compact camera.
