Peter and Robert
The Painted Snipe was in a different location when I last visited (9 Nov)
and the hide was the best place from which to see it. It may have been
visible from the viewing platform but I didn't try there.
David Billinghurst's report of 9 Nov indicates that it wasn't visible from
outside the fence.

Painted Snipe
I'm guessing there's a good chance the hide will be closed if you go in the
morning, and the bird under its bush and not visible from it anyway. If
this is the case then you'll have to try to see it from the car park.
These photos might help you spot it from the car park, assuming it's still
where it was a few weeks ago:
