RFI: Rental Car for Getting Around Cairns

I use a website called carhire.com.au to book cars direct from airports.
I find these offer all hire firms at the best prices if booked by
internet.  Never book at the airport though.

We hired a couple of cars up there in July.  Budget was heaps cheaper
than 
Avis or Hertz.  We had a x-trail for about $400 for a week I think. It
was 
OK though it didn't handle the dirt of Black Mtn Rd (Julatten to Kuranda

where there are cassowaries) well after the wet so we turned back after
a 
short distance.  Also don't hire from the airport; it's at least $50
more - 
just get the airport bus ($10 from memory) to drop you at the city
office of 
the hirer.
