Bill,I am 100% sure that the bird is an Australian race of the Shining Bronze-Cuckoo. The purplish-brown head and nape make it the Australian race. The New Zealand (nominate race) is very green on the head and nape and has a white line on the forehead which, if present, is narrow on the Australian bird. The large amount of green on the wings and back rule out Horsfield's. Also Horsfield's has a large amount of rufous in the tail. Regards Greg |
