Hi Bert,

Arapiles is the happiest place on Earth, but the birding there isn't
much chop. There's a few honey eaters around the Mount, Grey Currawong
around the escarpment and I'll be surprised if you don't see nankeen
kestrel and Peregrine falcons while you're climbing. There was a great
pair of Kestrel over on Mitre Rock last time I was there that carried
on and displayed. But otherwise there isn't much to recommend it as a
birding destination.

Have you got a bit of time? Take a rest day and drive over to Little
Desert while you're there. I don't know that park very well, but I saw
my only White-Fronted Chats there in miserable weather. I believe
there's some great birding to be had there. I found a turtle there
too, and made the mistake of picking it up. Took me 2 days to wash the
smell of my hands.

Have fun. Good time of year for Araps, and the new guide has just come
out too, so expect a surge of interest.
