I was lucky enough to borrow a dedicated slide scanner when I needed
to scan some slides for a presentation. I think it was a Pentax one -
did a fantastic job, but was slow as I had to scan them import each
slide separately. Some flatbed scanners have a slide attachment, and
others allow you to scan several slides at once on the platten. Terry
Pacey was telling me about this a couple of nights ago - he had to
remove his slides from their mounts, but he could do several at a
time, and got very good results.
Of course, all of these methods require that one elusive resource -
time! If you want to hand the work over to someone else I guess you
have to be prepared to pay quite a bit more.

While we are on the topic of technology, does anyone know if the
price of getting photographs digitised has come down at all. I know
this was raised on the list some time ago but was wondering if there
had been a drop in the outrageous price that was being asked. ( I
assume that if one provider offers a cheaper service, others will
follow).
Or is it now possible to do it yourself at a reasonable price /
quality.
Thanks
