Hi Russell,
Is that Mt Barker in WA? I had a feeling (or was it just wishful
thinking?) that there might be a Mt Barker closer to home for us, as
I'd love to see Aust. Bittern.
Yours in the hope that it might be 'closer to home'

Took a quick trip to the Laratinga Wetlands at Mt Barker yesterday to
have a look at the Australian Bittern reported there recently.
Following
instructions to go left around the ponds we quickly found the
Bittern in
the swale, nearly fell over it in fact, but it didn't seem at all
concerned by our presence.
After walking around the rest of the wetlands and coming back on the
opposite side of the swale we searched for another 15 minutes or so
but
it had obviously gone elsewhere.
There were three other birders there of the non speaking variety, one
with a huge lens, but they didn't even look our way let alone
speak, so
we have no idea who they were or whether they saw the Bittern.
