Hi Max,
I wouldn't mind betting that your call is an Eastern Yellow Robin. It is not
that well known but they often give this call pre-dawn before they start up
their usual piping call. You do occasionally hear it during the day.
Whistlers sometimes give a similar call, Rufous at times and Gilbert's too.
I have wasted many hours over the years tracking down what I thought was a
Gilbert's Whistler in Central Victoria only to find it was a robin.

Hi all,
lately I have been hearing a bird call in the Field of Mars (Gladesville,
Sydney) that I cant identify. I have been hearing it along the south side of
Buffalo Ck in an inaccessable spot of riparian eucalypt and undergrowth. The
call is a double note: chew, chew! Almost like that of a whipbird but
without the lead up to the crack. It makes the double note and then stops
for about 5-10 seconds and then makes the two notes again.
This may in fact be a very common species that I am not familiar with, but
any info would be much appreciated.
