Hi Nick, some information for you from a south east Australian (mainly
Victorian) perspective.

We are spoilt for choice in the south east with a plethora of field
guides, detailed treatises, reference books and CD-ROM's on various native
plant groups including the non-vascular plants (mosses, liverworts etc)
and fungi.

Here's just a selection of the ones I use at work and in the field. I
have put an asterisk against the ones most of use to someone like
yourself, they have great images and other information.

a. Vascular plants
Australian Nature Plants (various books) -

*Native trees and shrubs of se Australia -

*Wild orchids of Victoria -

A field guide to Victorian Wattles (Rogers 1993)(and other wattle books) -

b. Endemic Australian bryophytes -

c. Fungi
Various books but a good web site is as follows: Victorian fungi -

d. Databases of Victorian plants
Victorian Flora Information System (FIS) -
