I've noticed that a lot of the males around here which are in fully adult plumage, ie complete red head, no orange on breast, have a light yellow wash over some of the primaries. Is this a feature of the plumage of all male GGs, or is it a feature that disappears with further moults and can be used to identify younger birds? ps I've just been looking at some of my photos and it seems that females and immature males have yellowish-white margins to the feathers on the mantle and on the primaries. In adult males these margins are whiter, the yellow wash is separate feature across the main body of the primary and doesn't seem to reach to the mantle. -- John Leonard Canberra Australia www.jleonard.net =============================== www.birding-aus.org birding-aus.blogspot.com To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: =============================== |
