Hi Nikolas,
AUSTRALIAN SHELDUCK
Australian Shelduck are usually around the tableland just north of the ACT.
My last sighting was on 19 July along the road which runs from Collector
(off the Federal Hwy) north to Breadalbane (passing under the Hume Hwy). 4
birds seen feeding in a paddock.
Another fairly reliable site is a large dam near Murrumbateman (off Barton
Hwy). If heading south from Yass along the hwy turn left immediately before
Murrumbateman at the road signposted 'Helm Wines'. Follow this road until
you hit a T intersection, turn left. You will see a large dam further along
on your left. There are usually anywhere between 2-24 shelduck here
depending on the time of year and water levels.
AUSTRALASIAN BITTERN
The local sites north of the ACT are all bone dry except Wet Lagoon. Wet
Lagoon has some water and is a vast sedgeland, not a reedland. Although I
don't recall if this species has ever been recorded there, it is probably
the only likely spot to try to look for them.
Access to Wet Lagoon, again, is along the Collector-Breadalbane Rd. It is
not signposted and is located on the northern side of the Hume Hwy.
Cheers

Hi,
Does anyone have a suggestion where around Sydney the following species can
be found: Freckled Duck, Aus Shelduck, Aus Bittern?
Any news from Lake George and Lake Bathurst near Canberra?
Cheers,
Nikolas ----------------
