My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Lake Cathie in July 1976 and at
the time Spangled Drongos were in numbers around the main residential
part of town which in that era was very quiet in the winter months. We
returned again for a break in July 1988 and found that residents were
feeding Drongos on cheese in their backyard next to our accommodation.
At the time I was pleasantly surprised at their numbers and feel
that it may be a general overwintering occurrence at that latitude.
Here around the Mossman-Daintree area there are many more Spangled
Drongos overwintering than is normal. Numbers don't generally appear
until early September when a constant migration filters through this
area on it's return to the South.
