We were at Undara in Oct 2006. The lava tubes themselves are, as other posters have said, visited on organised trips - no birds to speak of but nonetheless pretty interesting and I'm sure kids would enjoy it. There are also some good walking trails - good for dry country woodland birds - I remember we saw a lot of Squatter Pigeons. The rangers do fireside talks in the evening - quite atmospheric but I'm afraid their wildlife knowledge was not very good. (Or maybe I'm a bit picky!) It was very dry at Undara when we were there - we found it fascinating to head East and within a few score miles there were patches of rainforest and then we were at Millaa Millaa and it was pouring with rain and very green.
