Greetings,
Australian Fernwrens have commenced nest building at Mt Hypipamee. Walk to
the first bridge and look to your left. In the creek are two logs crossing
the creek together. The nest is under the second. Between the logs there is
an exposed root on which the birds often pause. It can be seen from the
bridge. PLEASE STAY ON THE PATH.
An immature male Golden Bowerbird was feeding on fruit today from a
Lauraceae found near the entrance to the toilets at the Mt Hypipamee picnic
grounds.
The well known site at Longlands Gap which I have been watching for three
decades shows no sign of activity. The fourth bird at this site in that time
was a messy decorator last year (its first year on the job). The upright of
the larger tower has fallen so the bird may well start another bower this
year.
Regards,
Alan Gillanders
