I have created a photographic aid intended to help in the identification of the four larger white egrets in Australia. The image can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ptiloris463/2509935011/ Please note this identification aid concentrates on the gape. The birds are not shown in scale in relation to size and the plumages are representational only. The birds are shown in similar poses so that the shapes of the bills can be assessed. However, it should be noted that there has been no attempt to accurately show any diagnostic differences in bill, head or neck shape, size or length. The image is best viewed at "full size" by clicking on the "all sizes" button at the top-left of the image. ("Full size" = "original size.)
