Hi John

All your species have declined dramatically in Bayside (and I believe
Melbourne).

10 years ago by the end of May I had Tree Sparrow records from 14 of the 18
Bayside sectors we use to summarise records. This year only 3 sectors and
recording rates in these only about 10%. In some it used to be 100%.

Only one Song Thrush record (2008) since 2006. No Bulbul since 1996.

And an update on Barbary Doves. After recording two very young ones with
adults on 9 and 10 Feb, I saw 2 on 26th Feb. None on 7 subsequent visits to
their area, and no reports from others there or anywhere else in Bayside.

I have been asking individuals and representatives of organisations if they
have been trapping these birds. None has. But I wonder if Mike Carter was
correct and that someone is doing the right thing (with my thanks).
