I am just back from 3 nights at Hyams Beach at Jervis Bay (NSW South
Coast). Despite it being my honeymoon and not doing any serious birding I
did get to see some interesting birds nonetheless.
WHITE-NECKED HERON - single bird by dam at Coolangatta Estate on 23 April.
EASTERN REEF EGRET - single dark morph bird at Lake Conjola on 25 April.
CATTLE EGRET - several groups ranging from 2-9 birds around Berry, Bolong &
Meroo Meadow on 23 April.
NANKEEN NIGHT HERON - single adult bird skulking in mangroves along
Mangrove Boardwalk by museum on 24 April at Huskisson (Jervis Bay).
GREY-TAILED TATTLER - 3 birds on rocks by jetty at Crookhaven Heads on 24
April. Is this an unusual record?
BAR-TAILED GODWIT - 7 birds at Lake Conjola on 25 April and 2 birds at
Crookhaven Heads on 24 April.
RED-CAPPED PLOVER - some 34 plover-size birds present at Lake Conjola on 25
April most likely this species Possibly some Double-banded Plovers among
them, couldn't tell due to distance.
PIED OYSTERCATCHER - pair at Lake Conjola on 25 April.
CASPIAN TERN - single immature bird at Lake Conjola on 25 April.
WHITE-HEADED PIGEON - 2 birds roosting in old fig tree at Mick Ryan Park
(Milton) on 25 April.
TOPKNOT PIGEON - large flock of over 30 birds feeding in fig tree in Berry
on 23 April.
FAN-TAILED CUCKOO - single bird calling in heath/forest on 25 April along
Booderee Ave (Hyams Beach section of NSW Jervis Bay NP).
EASTERN BRISTLEBIRD - good views of singles seen in heath on 23 & 25 April
along roadside Booderee Ave (Hyams Beach section of NSW Jervis Bay NP).
FUSCOUS HONEYEATER - single immature bird in heath on 25 April along
Booderee Ave (Hyams Beach section of NSW Jervis Bay NP).
TAWNY-CROWNED HONEYEATER - single bird in heath on 25 April along Booderee
Ave (Hyams Beach section of NSW Jervis Bay NP).
