Hi everyone,

The autumn Minitwitch was held on Sunday just gone and apart from one Dubbo
team, it was an all-Hunter affair. It would really be great to see teams from
other parts of Oz take part. I will endeavour to give more notice next time.

The winners this time around were the "Oil Barons", who came in with 129 spp.
Not bad for a Sundee morning's birding, especially when it's on the penultimate
day of March. Not too far behind were the "Square-tailed Quites" on 126 and
then followed the "Timeless Turnstones" on 124. So it was pretty close at the
top for this one.

West of the divide, the "Dubbo Double Dippers" managed 80 spp. despite the fact
that recent rains had apparently left the waterbirds very few and far between
out there. Craig Dipper is keen to have some 'inland' competition for the next
event (I'm thinking probably Aug-Sept).

5 hours can be cruel and there is no need to go into the various dips that each
team had to wear. But perhaps the most interesting was one Hunter team who came
in without House Sparrow....a sign of the times maybe?

Results:
Oil Barons - 129
Square-tailed Quites - 126
Timeless Turnstones - 124
The Twits - 100
Dubbo Double Dippers - 80
Grumpy Frogmouths - 64

Many thanks to all who participated. It really is a great morning's
action-packed birding!

Mick Roderick
