Hi all,Yesterday, we borrowed a couple of Kayaks, and paddled for a few km up the Leven river, which empties into Bass Strait just in front of our house. Others had reported Azure Kingfishers up river, which we had only ever seen in Tassie on the West Coast, and then only one (they were shot almost to extinction in Tassie in the 19th Century for feathers for ladies hats!). We didn't find any kingfishers (sigh) but had a lovely afternoon, and the highlight, bird-wise, was a flock of between 20 and 30 Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos (hard to count, as some had already flown across the gap in trees before we noticed them. There were good numbers of juveniles, too, giving their croaky, whining calls. Must have been a good breeding season for them.
