On Easter Sunday we went for a short drive up the Middle Arm Road (15km
north of Goulburn) and were rewarded with stunning views of a male Scarlet
Robin, a bird which has hitherto evaded me.
The other highlight was a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles (mid to light brown in
colouring) perched in a dead tree in the middle of a paddock. They allowed a
very close approach and only took to the wing when some Galahs flew past
very close to them. They both took of in half-hearted pursuit before
circling back straight above us and then circling over our heads for a few
minutes before flying off. It was an awe inspiring experience to have such
close contact with these magnificent animals.
We also saw many Yellow-rumped Thornbills and a single White-throated
Treecreeper, as well as several very large flocks of Common Starling. Both
Eastern and Crimson Rosellas were abundant.
