I agree with Peter. Returning to Queensland after 30 years living further 
south I was absolutely amazed by the huge numbers of Rainbow Lorikeets here. 
There are roosts of thousands in Ipswich city streets. I didn't count them 
before I went away and I haven't counted them properly now but it's a 
contrast between when we were excited by half a dozen in the garden, and the 
many flocks of dozens I see now, and these huge roosts.
There was some discussion about lorikeets roosting in streets on 
Birding-aus, last year I think.
I was standing in the street watching them come in one night; the noise was 
deafening. A man came up and asked me if I was looking something. When I 
said I was watching the lorikeets, he said "Oh no love, these are nasty 
filthy starlings. They're green up here!"
