Hi All,
Just wondering whether anyone from the West has any idea of the
numbers of Rainbow Lorikeets now extant in Perth?
This beautiful invader is not native to Tassie, though there have
been small populations in some areas of the state - arising from
aviary escapees - for some years. When we moved to Ulverstone almost
12 months ago, we noticed a population here, and were told it had
been at around 6 individuals for some time. We counted a dozen in
one flyover one day!
Just lately, though, we have had a couple of "Bushy Yates" Euc.
lehmanii, (a WA native, often grown here for its blooms and nectar
production) blooming in the carpark next door. A few days ago I went
out to photograph the Rainbows making a cacophony in these trees and
counted 32 fly out of one tree! Seems we may be headed in the same
direction as Perth with our Rainbows.
