Hi all,
Just to comment on Martin's comments regarding Chiltern, it is also very dry at
Killawarra Forest (another Box-Ironbark woodland, part of Warby Range State
Park) in north-east Victoria as well.
As Martin said I have found evenings by small dams such as along North-west
Lane or School House Road the best time to see birds. Understorey is very
degraded in parts of the forest as well. In the evenings though, many of the
expected birds can be seen as it cools down. I have noticed Robins (Red-capped,
Hooded) and Thronbills (Buff-rumped, Yellow, Striated) have begun to form mixed
feeding flocks too.
Birds seen at dams drinking in the evenings have included Common Bronzewings,
Little and Noisy Friarbirds and Fuscous Honeyeaters. An Australian
Owlet-Nightjar was heard last week.
Heres hoping for some rain soon.
