Hi Tim,Birding alone isn't that bad as long as you're prepared for long waits if you break down, although almost all stations, etc. in tha outback have UHF repeater towers where you can usually get help if you are desperate. I've travelled up to Birdsville and around Cameron Corner country alone with no problems (luckily). I work on the principal that if you plan for all disasters nothing goes wrong and if you get stuck as long as you have food and water and stay close to main roads there is always the advantage of being able to stay in the one place and really see what birds are around!
