Hi All,

I was called to an interesting sight out the front ofmy house yesterday
afternoon.

What I first thought was a huge swift flock I soon found out to be a large
flock of Oriental Pratincole. At least 20 000 birds flying slowly over the
town, occationally whipping up into large whirlpools in the thermals(?). It
was an amazing sight and something I haven't heard of with Pratincole
before. Can anyone shed anymore light on this.

Has anyone seen flocks of this size before? APART from the 2.5 million flock
on 80 mile a few years back.

It appeared as though the birds may have been gathern for migration, as some
of the twirling spirals were going up VERY high.

Cheers,

Nathan Waugh
