A lot of activity all through the area following weeks of good rain now.
Following all seen around Douglas Farm Road in Kurrajong Hills morning
of Feb 10. Interesting sightings included Grey Goshawk x 2 (and another
at Richmond by the Hawkesbury), Azure Kingfisher (first sighting in over
a year), Dusky Woodswallow (3rd or 4th local sighting only, despite
apparently suitable habitat and being present in several nearby areas),
Spotted Pardalote, Golden Whistlers moving up out of the creek forest
and into more open areas, Yellow-throated Scrubwren, Dollarbird, and in
good numbers were Satin Bowerbird, Olive-backed Oriole (inc 2 juv),
Eastern Yellow Robin (feeding juv), Bell Miner (incubating and with
dependent young), Crimson and Eastern Rosella, Lewins Honeyeater, and
the usual pigeons - Wongas, Common Bronzewing, Peaceful and
Bar-shouldered Dove. Channel-bills and Koels seem to have quietened
down - neither sp heard for the first time since early Oct. Wedge-tailed
Eagles have been stopping in trees along the creek and have been seen
regularly but not this morning. Pacific Bazas seem to have been scarce
this summer, and have not had a sighting of WT Needletails.
