I fully agree with ringing the alarm bells with the prospect of another introduced bird species about to establish in this country. We have more than enough experience with other invaders to know what is likely to happen to not even have to think twice about what should be done. They should be removed from the wild in whatever way is effective.

With people referring to the birds as 'feral' my immediate reaction was that they are not feral but introduced species. My understanding of 'feral' with respect to plants and animals is that they are domesticated varieties/species that are now living in the wild.

To my surprise both my Pocket Oxford and Macquarie dictionaries have a broader interpretation to include anything that is wild, untamed etc. These are not scientific texts so I would be interested in anyone's comments on this.
