Thanks muchly to Carl and David for their help....

I guess I should have pointed out the main reason for my enquiry.

I am not actually birding in the 'region' covered by Mackinnon and Phillips
(unfortunately), but am returning to Australia from my RTW sojourn via
Christmas Island (not so unfortunately). Obviously I have no Aussie field
guides in my possession, but was really hoping to pick up a copy of Mackinnon
and Phillips as Chrissy Island is more biogeographically aligned to Java than
Australia. The folk on the island are hopefully fixing me up with an Aussie
guide and there's even talk of a publication of the birds of the island itself
being available.

I do have a copy of Robson's "Birds of SE Asia", as well as Round and Boonsong
Lekagul's "Birds of Thailand", so at such short notice (I fly from Singapore on
Thursday), I think that these will need to suffice. I wasn't aware that
Mackinnon & Phillips was out of print.

There was a point in my travels when I was carrying 4 field guides. If I pick
up Mackinnon and Phillips and then score an Aussie guide it will be the same
situation....oh my shoulders!

Mick

Hi Mick,

As Dave Adams said Amazon does list it, but it is out of print in the English
version. It is in print in Indonesia apparently, but in Bahasa Indonesia of
course. At least the pictures are still there as are the names of the birds.

AbeBooks, http://www.abebooks.com list 3 copies if Amazon is no help, but at
prices ranging from USD 95.88, to USD 181.32.

You could contact Morten Strange at Natures niche in Singapore
http://www.naturesniche.com and ask if he knows of anyone who has a second
hand copy they would be happy to sell. He might be able to advise as to where
you can get the Bahasa edition if all else fails.

Best of luck,

Carl Clifford

Hi everyone,

Just a long shot, as I'm running out of options. I was just wondering if anyone
knew if it is possible to purchase a copy of
the Mackinnon and Phillips "Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo, Sumatra, Java
and Bali" in either Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. I would have thought KL
would have the book as part of Malaysia lies on the island Borneo.

I've sent emails to various SE Asian bird organisations, bookshops and have
exhausted Google well and truly....with zero results.

If anyone can help, that would be muchly appreciated.

Mick Roderick
