Yesterday morning at Pambalong Nature Reserve (near the village of
Minmi, west of Newcastle NSW) there were many White-throated Needletails
present in the area for much of the time. At about 11:00 they all
collected together presumably to feed on a swarm of insects, and we
could get a better idea of the total numbers. There were at least 100
birds, all WTN so far as we could identify.

By the way, Pambalong NR is mostly wetland and the water levels are
quite high at the moment. Every December we do a count there of
Latham's Snipe (which is what we were doing yesterday) and in some years
the numbers exceed 100 birds. However, this year there were only 5
birds present. There are no muddy margins at Pambalong at the moment.
