Joined my local Fauna Watch group for an early morning survey of Mountain Creek
Conservation Area on Monday. Mountain Creek is a small patch of remnant bush
about 3km SW of Moloolaba (on Qld's Sunshine Coast) between the north side of
the Sunshine Coast Motorway and the base of Buderim hill.
Highlight of the morning was the sighting of a juvenile BFCS which was snowy
white all over, with the exception of a slight dark stripe through the
eyes.Eye-colour was dark, not red (?ruling out albino?). The bird was not in a
nest, but was staying-put in the upper reaches of a tall creekside euc. An
adult BFCS regularly brought food items which were eagerly accepted. The
juvenile had the shape and behaviour of BFCS incl wing-shuffling after making a
short foray from one branch to another. It was so white that the initial
impression was of a White Tern!!!
Has anyone come across such a BFCS before?
