The following uncommon waders, with their locations, were seen at the WTP
today (Wed 21/11):
1. Pectoral Sandpiper - in the first wet but unfilled pond on the left
immediately after passing through the open gate directly east of the Little
River ford (the ford reached from the east end of Paradise Rd). [This pond
is part of 145W Lagoon but is not numbered on the birding map of the WTP
(see Dave Torr's website for a copy) - it is directly over the road from
pond #6.] (However, this site was being used by many Sharp-tailed Sandpipers
and a few Curlew Sandpipers and Red-necked Stint to shelter from the wind
and rain and may not be occupied in fairer weather.)
2. Long-toed Stint & Wood Sandpiper - seen together around the edges of
the little grassy islands in the eastern half of the main "bay" on the
northern edge of the Eastern Conservation Lagoon (35E-8) - in the same
location as at least 2 Long-toed Stints were present for many weeks 2 or 3
years ago (and seen by many birders there).
