G'day birding-Ausers

For the last three days Craig Williams has been watching and reporting quite a few hundred needletails feeding around southern Newcastle and the vegetated areas to the SE of Newcastle. In that I spent last week driving around the area just south of there in Alan Morris's "backyard" looking for needletails but never saw any I believe the birds Craig is seeing are the main leading group pushing south. I have had reports of only much smaller groups further south.

Can any of you corroborate this concept or does any one have data to oppose this idea?

The three days have been warm to hot with clear blue skies so they are not staying there because of a stationary rain-front.

I would appreciate any data on Needletails (or FTS) sent directly unless you want the whole list to know.

Many thanks

Mike Tarburton
