There is a winery on the Bellerine Peninsula near Geelong called "Brown Magpie"
which apparently has a family of magpies with brown-and-white colouration
living on the property. (I've been there once but didn't see the magpies - nice
wine though).

Subject: [Birding-Aus] Brown Magpie
Hi All,
I have just returned from a 4 month, 24000 km caravan trip to Qld,
NT,WA and SA. It was not specifically a birding trip but we ticked 62 new
species. I need time to sort out all the observations, and will
eventually post some numbers etc., but thought I would start with this.
On our first night out of Sydney we stopped at Burrendong Dam. Among
the many birds around the caravan park was an Australian Magpie with an
unusual chocolate brown colouration on the wings. I managed a couple of
photos, of which this is the best. More surprising was that a few days
later we saw another one with similar colouration at Charleville. The
photo of this one is also on ABID.
I have seen lots of Magpies of all ages but never with this
colouration. We did not see any others like this on the trip, although there
were
the "white-backed" race in the expected places.
There were plenty of "normal" coloured Magpies in both locations.
Is this unusual. I had a quick Google but found nothing specific on
Brown Magpies.
Regards
Roger Giller.
