Peter, if you get a chance go to the information office in Chiltern and pick up
the Chiltern birding guide by Dr Barry Traill - a little booklet that has the
benefit of being free but also lists about four birding walks you could do.
It's been quite a few months since I was there and apparently conditions have
changed a bit. We found Honeyeater Picnic Ground (formally Cyanide Dam) to be
good but it seems that there's been a lot of activity recently at Bartley's
Block. When we were in Chiltern Dams #1 and #2 (another couple of sites
mentioned in the booklet) were pretty much dry, but I've heard that there's
water in them now and a fair bit of activity around them too.
Sorry - I don't know of any places to stay, but I suggest a quick call to the
information centre would point you in the right direction.

I'm unexpectedly in the position where I might be able to visit Chiltern later
this week. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to do much research beforehand
and I've never been there before.
Would someone be kind enough to recommend a child-friendly (2 and 4) place to
stay for one night, preferably allowing late checkout, and a good walk to do?
I'd probably have about 3 or 4 hours early in the morning.
