Hi James,
The easiest place to see Chestnut Rail around Darwin is Buffalo Creek at
a low or mid tide - especially in conjuction with dawn or dusk. Please
note that it's a relatively busy area, so you need to wait (hope) for
quiet periods between boat launches.
For more information on the rail and good places to see other birds in
Darwin please see my trip report at:

Hope this helps,
Tim

Subject: Where can I see Chestnut Rail in Darwin?
Hello,
I have until Friday here in Darwin and would like to see a few birds
whilst here. Came through Fogg Dam on the way here, which was fantastic
although I didn't see one of two species I hoped I might.
I don't have any wheels so will prob look around the spots in tewn as
much as possible. I went to the Botanic Gdns this morning, which was
rained off, thinking that Chestnut Rail might be found there (someone
said it was so!).
Caught a Blue Kingfisher there, not sure whether it was Forest or
Little.
Regrads
James
