Darren,

In most states of Australia it is against the law to even look after an orphaned bird for any length of time. Despite you may mean well, wildlife authorities readily regard this good natured activity as 'capturing native wildlife'. I suggest you hand the bird over to a recognised wildlife authority (eg.WIRES), these groups have the knowledge and experience to offer orphaned or injured animals the best chances for survival.
