I've just returned from two days in Jandowae where I was successful in
seeing the PH. I went armed with Dan Mantle's trip report and downloaded
bird trail info. I also went back through my records and found info Terry
Pacey had kindly forwarded to me in 1999. Just to be on the safe side I
called into the Info Center and got the complete bird trail booklet.
I had tried previously to find them at Terry's sites (which
obviously correspond to the key PH sites on Trail 1) , as did the BQ campout
at nearby Chinchilla in Early 2004, but without success. Nothing wrong with
Terry's info, they just weren't there when I've previously looked. I think
Bill Jolley's right, Dan Mantle's trip report re-motivated a number of needy
PH fans.
I saw four at one trail site, two at another, but my first
sighting was at a site not marked on either the Bird Trail info or Terry's
old info. And no, I'm not that clever, I had a bout of navigational dyslexia
and ended-up in the "wrong "spot , which cheered me up no end (that I could
misread a simple map and still get a lifer!!)
I'll post a more detailed report on my time on the Bird Trails
tomorrow.

I am amused by all the activity re Jandowae and Painted Honeyeaters.
I checked the archives to be certain and in 1990 I offered maps to
anyone who asked, which showed the location of Painteds and several
other relatively rare species in the area.
I even prepared a bird list of the area and copies of this and the maps
were left at the Information Office.
I had about THREE inquiries. Why all the interest now?
