Looking at the photo, if that bird was running around in Australia Bob,
the twitchers would be out in a flash. It doesn't look like any Aus
species I'm familiar with.

Dear birders,
A friend went to Australia and went to the Sidney
zoo
and took some pictures. She forgot to annotate them.
I have a picture of what looks to be a gamebird,
size of a large
rail/gallinule or large quail.
As it was taken at the zoo, it may not even be an
Australian Bird.
I see your listserv doesn't accept photos, so I'd be
glad to send to any individual on request.
The bird has a Gray bill and head, bill length shorter
than half of headlength, slightly decurved and looks
to be thicker in the upper mandible.
Dark eye-line curving downward towards the nape.
Contrasting dark gray neck band that blends into a
med.green back, chest and belly.
Brownish-orange flanks.
Short tail.
Orange/pink unfeathered legs.
Leg height is shorter than body height, giving the
bird a rounded shape.
Any clues? Toes and bill don't look right for a
rail,
so I assume it's some kind of gamebird.
Any thoughts as to family, country of origin or
specific species i.d. would be sincerely appreciated.
