Can you help this dire situation? I have great concerns for the virgin bushland in the St Georges Basin region on the south coast of NSW about 20 mins drive south of Nowra, in the Shoalhaven District. I have been going to this region for holidays all my life (since 1957) and then our parents retired there. We have also bought a small home there in hope to retire there one day as well. The last strip of virgin bushland is a natural sanctuary for the flora and fauna of the area - noted by locals as a safe passage for the kangaroo families. The trees are old and very tall and a wonderful area for lots of bird life. Developers are threatening the future of this area. I know people need a place to live too but this area does not need this development. The residents do not want further development and the developers are planning high density accommodation, calling it a retirement village, which there is one right next to this anyway. Plus they want to introduce theatres, restaurants, bowling alley, supermarket, and to let you know how rediculous that is, the road and water system can not support anything of this kind. So, with no in-sight to the area or needs of those who live there we are threatened with a new rat race of living which is why we escape the city in the first place. Somebody has to speak up for our birds and animals. This is what we have always appreciated most about the area and this last bit of real and untouched bush should be left for the future of the area. All education points to this, in keeping a balance, otherwise it spells disaster. But big money is involved and so they are not listening. If you knew the area or could come and see it, it would break your heart to know we are soon to lose it. It certainly breaks my heart to think how the birds and animals will suffer. What do you think of our dilema? What chance is there that something could be done to save our precious bushland and bird and animal homes forever?
