Today October 14 at the Warriewood Wetlands two rainbow lorikeets were seen
to enter a hole in a termites nest some 5 meters above ground on a swamp
mahogany. Both birds were in the hole at the same time and remained there
for some time. Is it usual for rainbows to use termite’s nests? There were
two sacred kingfishers within a metre of the hole a few minutes before. Also
seen was a white-throated gerygone and near the waterfall a powerful owl was
roosting over the track past where the new boardwalk is being constructed. I
was showing some passers by the Owl and explained that whitewash on the
ground had alerted us to the bird when the owl obliged with another shower
which just missed.
