Graham,
The PGP's are all hiding down at Comerong Island near Nowra (NSW). I saw
about 50-60 there a week ago. Along with 50+ Bat Tailed Godwits and many
Sharp-tailed SP's.
Had excellent views also of 4 White-headed Pigeons feeding along the road!
Was able to stop and take a photo with a 3x pocket camera.
Cheers

Hi all,
Ray Gobbe and I went down to Maroubra this morning. The wind became quite
strong by 9am. Birds seen included:
Little Penguin
Reef Egret
Many Short-Tailed Shearwaters – a distinctive flight – slightly higher
speed, more direct flight and less side to side compared to Wedgies – as
well as short tail, dumpy head and a diminutive overall look – also the
lighter brown patch on the underwing.
(Tens of?) thousands of Wedge-Tailed Shearwaters – big feeding event off
Coogee
Huttons Shearwater (c4 X as many as Fluttering)
Fluttering Shearwater
1 juv Giant Petrel species undetermined
2 Wandering Alabatross – 1 no. 1-2 years (big white patch in centre of brown
chest and belly), 1 adult +10 years
Several immature Black-Browed Albatross (no YNosed or Shy today)
2 Humpback Whales c.200m off the rocks
This pm I was down at Penrhyn which is a bit disappointing so far this
summer:
29 BTGodwits
2 Red Knots
6 RN Stints
(also 2 displaying Sea-Eagles over Towra Point – 40X magnification from the
spit at Penrhyn)
Where are the PGPlovers this year? Last year there was a regular group of
8-16. So far this year only singletons on the way through.
Cheers,
Graham Buchan
