Sea sickness and Antartica

I have just been atlking to my daughter who has sea sickness very badly and
found out the name of the drug that seems to be the most successful.

She writes
"I remember using some patches, but they were basically useless. The tablets
that finally made a difference were called Stugeron. I believe the active
ingredient is 15mg Cinnarizine. However, I was on them for two days before I
saw any real improvement, so I?m not really sure if it was the tablets or
just that after 6 days on the water I finally got my sea legs. But
depressingly, only two weeks after leaving the ship we were on for 21 days,
I went on a 3 hour pelagic off Kaikoura and was sick again within an hour. I
hadn?t kept my sea legs like I had hoped. I believe that Stugeron is not
available in Aussie, but is in the UK and USA. I?d start taking them a few
days before travel, not just a few hours like the packet recommends.

I have since done a few trips (only a few hours out from Cairns to the reef)
and found that if it wasn?t too rough, Ginger tablets worked OK. However on
these trips the ocean is usually quite calm and you are not often away from
land. As soon as I can?t see land anymore, I really struggle."

I hope this helps the lady who wants to take her Mum there (can't remember
who it was now, sorry). You will both love it - I can't recommend Antartica
and the sub-Antarctic enough. The latter is the best by far for birding
though but the former has it for scenery and experience.

Cheers,

Fiona
