I saw this from the train at about 60kph, from about 100m away through a dirty window, and I've never seen one before. So I could be wrong. It looked like a black chicken, wandering around on the south bank of Kororoit Ck, on the east side of the railway line, near the ford. Not sure what else it could be (apart from a black chicken). The shape just didn't look like a Purple Swamphen or Dusky Moorhen.
