Phil,
Today was a good one at Penrhyn – this p.m 1hr off high tide saw 15
BTGodwit, 1 Curlew Sand – very little summer plumage left (the third
different one in the past week), 6 RN Stints (1 with orange tag right tibia
and metallic band left tarsus) plus the usual terns and gulls. The PGPlover
appears to have moved on. The RN Stints were very, very nervous for some
reason and I couldn’t get closer than 50m.
Yesterday, at La Perouse the Crested Tern band number was 07340902 (the 4
appeared 7 like a few times but I’m pretty sure it was 4!). I was so intent
on getting the number that I omitted to note the tern’s plumage or the ring
leg! There were 55 Crested, 19 Common and 3 White-fronted Terns on the large
rock platform area facing Kurnell. I can now fully testify as to the quality
of the Kowa 883 – the light gathering and lack of distortion are very
welcome.
Cheers,
Graham
