Thanks to everyone who has helped me plan some birding on my trip to
Melbourne.

So many great suggestions, I think I'll need to go down again and devote a
week to some of the great places to look.

Thanks again

As Tina has confirmed yes to both these questions, I'll suggest Royal
Park. It's within walking distance and the Zoo, as suggested by someone
else, is in the middle of it. It includes the Trin Warren Tam-boore
wetlands at the north end. A list of what's there is available at
www.eremaea.com.

My local swamp, Truganina Swamp in Altona, is just a few minutes walk
from Westona station, which is about 25 minutes from the CBD. If you
like walking, you could do that then follow the creek down to the beach.
You could walk for hours through the coastal parkland. Again, Eremaea
has lists.

The idea of what's a good site changes dramatically when you rule out
those inaccessible by public transport, doesn't it? Someone should
produce a book of sites like that.
